Muirhead is a small town 7 miles North-East of Glasgow city centre. Glasgow city centre can be reached within 20 minutes drive by road or a short 20 minute train ride. Nearby villages and towns include Chryston, Garnkirk, Gartcosh, Lenzie and Stepps. Muirhead has a population of around 1,390. With road links the A80/M80 and frequent bus services the 36, x37, x39 and x3, Muirhead is a perfect commuter town for Glasgow, Stirling and beyond. Muirhead is located approximately two miles from Gartcosh, Lenzie and Stepps railway stations.
The suburb has a variety of shops including a Co-operative Food, newsagents, award-winning butcher, stationers and plenty of take-away food shops. Two bars which serve the area are the Muirhead Inn and The Crowwood. The town is supported by two medical centres, two dentists, has two primary schools and one high school.
A local development to the south of the village is Belhaven Park which covers an area of 4.5 Hectares. It has an attractive layout of ornamental trees, shrubs and flower beds. Hanging baskets and flowering bulbs add more colour to the park during the spring and summertime. There is a children’s play area and a skating area within the park. Picnic benches and seating are located throughout the park.
